Pentagon Memorial Fund, Inc. Appoints Beau Memory to the Board of Directors

Memory Brings Experience in Public-Private Partnerships and Builds on the Strong Relationship with Transurban

ARLINGTON, VA – The Pentagon Memorial Fund, Inc. welcomes Beau Memory to the Board of Directors to support the effort to construct a visitor education center at the site of the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial.

Beau is the President of Transurban North America where he leads major toll road infrastructure development, financing, construction and operations across the continent, including the 95, 395, and 495 Express Lanes in the Washington, D.C. area. Beau is a recognized leader in the transportation industry with previous roles in North Carolina and Colorado. He was recognized as the IBTTA’s Toll Excellence Award in 2022.

“Transurban is an important part of the DMV community and a long-standing supporter of our efforts to remember 9/11 and impact of the response. Beau’s experience and leadership will drive our success in achieving a public-private realization of the Visitor Education Center.” said Pentagon Memorial Fund, Inc. Board Chairman and President Sean T. Connaughton. “The lessons learned from 9/11 have never been more important; this history must be passed to the next generation who have no direct memory of this history.”

The Pentagon Memorial Fund, Inc. is currently raising funds to establish a visitor education center at the Pentagon Memorial site honoring the 184 lives lost on September 11, 2001, when terrorists hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 and crashed it into the Pentagon. Unlike the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania and the 9/11 Memorial in NYC, the Pentagon Memorial does not yet have a visitor center to educate and inform the more than one million annual visitors to the hallowed site. The Pentagon Memorial Fund, with its partner Arlington National Cemetery, secured concept approval from the National Capital Planning Commission and the Commission of Fine Arts in Fall of 2023.

“I am honored to join the Pentagon Memorial Fund Board of Directors and aid in their endeavor to memorialize the lives lost and the lives forever altered by the tragic events of September 11, 2001,” said Beau Memory. “Headquartered here in Northern Virginia, Transurban North America aims to support our local community beyond our roads. I look forward to continuing the strong partnership between the Fund and Transurban, working toward the shared goal of commemoration and education.”

The 9/11 Pentagon Memorial Visitor Education Center will be located within walking distance from the Pentagon Memorial and in proximity to Arlington National Cemetery. The Southern Expansion Project at Arlington National Cemetery is currently framing the boundaries of the future site of the visitor education center.
