Event: Wreath Laying Ceremony

Details: At 3 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2009, Wreaths Across America, Inc. (WAA), a non-profit organization that started in 1992, will host a wreath laying ceremony at the Pentagon Memorial.

The Worcester Wreath Company, a family owned and operated company based in Maine since 1971, is donating 3,000 wreaths as a gesture to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. The wreaths will be delivered as part of a convoy traveling to each location: New York City, NY (2,776); Pentagon (184); and Shanksville, PA (40).

The convoy will depart from Maine for New York City on December 10. A wreath laying ceremony will be held at Battery Park in New York City. Following the ceremony, the convoy will travel to Washington, DC for a wreath laying at the Pentagon Memorial on the afternoon of December 11. Following that ceremony, the convoy will make its way to Shanksville, PA for an event on December 12.

At Friday’s ceremony at the Pentagon Memorial, Morrill Worcester, Founder of Wreaths Across America, is giving opening remarks. Mr. Jim Laychak, President of the Pentagon Memorial Fund is giving keynote remarks.

The three events coordinate with Wreath Laying Ceremonies taking place all over the world as part of National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, December 12, 2009. The wreaths will remain on display at the Pentagon Memorial until December 18, 2009. The wreaths are adorned with a single red ribbon that symbolizes strength and unity.
